You have finally reached the six week mark after delivery and you are anxious to get your body back in shape. Keep in mind that it took nine months to put the pounds on, and it may take that long to get rid of them. With a little motivation and hard work, you can have your body looking fit and trim with a few simple techniques.
1. Stroller Walks
A great way to share time with your baby and get some exercise, is to go for long stroller walks. Start out slow and work your way up to longer and brisker walks. This will jump start your metabolism and give you more energy to care for your little one. If the weather doesn’t allow you to walk outside, consider going to a large shopping mall.
Swimming is an excellent form of aerobic exercise. If you have a pool, a community center or health club that offers swimming in your area, you can use it to your advantage. Water is great for resistance exercise. You can tone your arms and legs, and speed up your metabolism as well with swimming and water workouts. Check your local facilities for post natal exercise classes.
3. Make Healthy Food Choices
Focus on eating whole grains along with plenty of fruits and vegetables. Avoid white flour products, white breads, pasta, and rice. Also stay away from fried foods and meat that is high in fat. Stick with lean meats such as white meat chicken or fish.
4. Make Healthy Beverage Choices
Avoid sugary drinks, and replace them with water. It is simple to determine how much water one should consume in a day. The basic formula is to take the body weight in pounds, divide it in half and that is how many ounces of water you should be drinking every day. You will feel fuller, lose weight faster and be healthier.
If you are at home with your baby and want to burn some calories and have some fun at the same time, grab your little one and dance! Turn on some upbeat, happy music that you and your child will enjoy. Dance with your baby for 20-30 minutes and you will get your heart rate up and speed up your metabolism.
6. Get Your Partner Involved
It is always easier to lose weight and get in shape as a team. Chances are, your partner gained a few pounds as well while you were pregnant, and could stand to shed a few pounds too. There are plenty of workout DVDs on the market that you could watch together, or you could join a local gym together, swim, or even go for daily walks with your new baby after dinner.
Don’t get discouraged if it takes a while to start seeing results. Avoid comparing yourself to the celebrities on the magazine covers. Take things at your own pace and enjoy spending time with your precious little gift.
